Growing up ninja in a modern world with ancient customs is difficult, but the Japanese government still has need of them. Only one ninja–a kunoichi–takes the mission, and she wants Duncan’s power for her own. She infiltrates the Chaio village alone and secretly threatens everyone close to Duncan. If he tells anyone about her, she vows to kill them. In return she wants his power and the secrets of the Chaio village.
Faced with a foe unlike any other, Duncan must overcome his own fears and the raging anger bursting within him when she kidnaps his girlfriend with plans to kill her. Follow him through his trials and challenges as he will either lose himself to his rage and become a threat to all he knows and loves, or triumph and become the ninja his people expect of him.

I purchased T.J. Perkins book entitled "Art of the Ninja - Earth (Shadow Legacy)" for my 11 year old son, who is NOT a fan of reading. He is required to read 15 minutes a day for school, and that is done with frowns and "Do I have to?". Well, after he started this book, he actually read longer than his 15 minutes, and there were a few occasions where he was upset that he had to put it down and go to bed. He read this book without any fuss at all. The story pulled him in and kept his interest. Well written T.J.! I also downloaded this book on my kindle so that I could read it too. We can't wait for the next book in the series to come out.Product details

I personally love Manga and Anime,and it's obvious T.J. Perkins put a lot of research into Art of the Ninja as it reads pretty much like a good Manga,so if you're a fan of the genre,this is a definite must read for you )
I really enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone who loves Japanese tradition and a good adventure book.

Art of the Ninja Earth (Shadow Legacy, Book 1)
After reading and enjoying a couple of T.J Perkins children's books I was her new adult book would be like. I wasn't disappointed, since I know nothing about ninjas I was a bit worried about a reading a story about them, I admit there were a few words I didnt understand and had to figure out myself, like gi and sensei but the breezy writing and big air of mystery made it easy to get into and I finished up the book in a day.
I have to say though I didn't quite feel it had the tone of an adult book and at some points felt like I was reading a book for younger readers, not that this is a bad thing, I just think it leans more towards ya and would make a great gift for teenage boys (I'll certainly be holding onto it for mine) but I wouldn't let anyone younger than that read it due to some violent scenes.
I liked the heroic main character of Duncan and felt all the characters were explained really well so I knew who they were and what they were like, his romance with mayumi is sweet, if a little underdeveloped, would be great to see how they become closer in further books and I'm also very interested to see what happens next with Duncan and his abilities.
I never thought that I would enjoy a book about Ninjas but I have. T.J. Perkins has written a wonderful series of books about the Art of the Ninja. The first one is Earth in the Shadow Legacy. Young Ninjas are trained in the art and some of them have special abilities. There is also a secret that the elders are protecting with their lives. This book is suspenseful and full of action. I really enjoyed reading this and look forward to the next one.
Excellent book, after reading the short story "Flight of the Fox", it deepened the mystery in the book, making you want to know more, brilliant lead into the following books, yet is a story within itself...
I won't get into a plot summary or spill any spoilers, but I will say that T.J. Perkin's book, "Art of the Ninja - Earth (Shadow Legacy)" is a book filled with action that contains a few twists that will leave the reader guessing what will happen next. Right from the prologue you're thrown into the action, and it makes you wonder what more mysteries will be revealed in the latter portions of the book. Don't get me wrong, there are also some tender moments to show that this isn't just a book about ninja combat and training, they are still human after all. I believe this book has a nice balance between martial arts, family and friend issues, love, and the loyalty to community and clan. If you are looking for a very accessible, entertaining read, look no further than "Art of the Ninja - Earth (Shadow Legacy)".
